Before Robert Kiyosaki, before Napoleon Hill, there was Wallace D. Wattles (1860-1911) who wrote several powerful and – for many life-changing – books over 100 years ago, including “The Science of Getting Rich.”
We don’t know much about his life. He was very poor and many times attempted – without success – to improve that situation for himself and his family. In the end, his work paid off and he became a wealthy man. He became a living example of the concepts he wrote about.
When you read his books, you will know that there are laws in the universe regarding success and wealth and that if we’ll just work with those laws and go with the tide instead of trying to swim against it (usually unknowingly and unintentionally), the results we want will start to come to us.
If you read “The Science of Getting Rich” – it will likely change your life, by changing your mind about the concept of “money“. You may have been brought up with the thought that money is a finite resource, that we all have to compete for. This book is desgined to release every preconcieved thought about money, poverty and competition, that is holding us all back from wealth.
The basic premise of this book is that becoming wealthy is a science, that once understood, and replicated will make wealth in everyone’s life. Make thoughts, express gratitude, take action (in that order) and abundance will flow.
Wattles does not give us any particular instructions “how-to” get money in the sense of what to do for a living or what investments to make. He does not include advice, such as “save 10% from every paycheck.” The reader has to take on faith that he or she will, through thought, gratitute and action, get rich. Maybe a lot of people find that hard to believe, but if you trust this wisdom, your attitude about money and wealth will change, and, if you apply the principles, your life will pick up in a wonderful way.
Some people insist that no matter what they do, they just cannot succeed. They know all the reasons why things won’t work. It’s the economy. It’s my boss. It’s my parets. Education costs too much. Employers don’t pay enough. Opportunities are snatched by competition.
What we need to remember, is that life really is a self-fulfilling prophecy. The largest impediment to our success is in our mind. It’s nearly impossible to get rich when everyone around you is complaining about how hard and unfair life is.
There are people who object to this book because all it talks about is money. But, if money isn’t vital, why do we all work so hard every day? There is a sense of denial that often goes with money, and this book will remind you that not only is getting rich a right, it is natural and it doesn’t have to harm anyone.
Wattles teaches us that we can “choose” to be successful and wealthy, but just “choosing” is not enough. If that is all you do, you are only a dreamer, and will have small or no power for accomplishment.
The following are some powerful quotes from Wallace D. Wattles writings:
“You are to become a creator, not a competitor. You are going to get what you want, but in such a way that when you get it every other person whom you affect will have more than he has now.”
“By thought, the thing you want is brought to you. By action, you receive it. Whatever your action is to be, it is evident that you must act NOW.”
“The object of all life is development; and everything that lives has an inalienable right to all the development it is capable of attaining.”
“There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought; it is the toughest work in the world.”
Give it a try and share it with others. What do you have to lose?
